Mango X Anna Selezneva

While mooching around Fashion Gone Rogue, I chanced upon a stunning lookbook that made my jaw drop. It was Anna Selezneva for Mango's Fall 2013 collection! I can't believe how excited I was when I discovered it, it was almost as exciting as when I found out that Cara Delevingne (my all-time favourite) was the face of Chanel (my favourite luxury label) last year! I've only just discovered who Anna Selezneva is, but I've seen enough to say that she has become one of my favourite models.

With razor-sharp bone structure and piercing pale blue eyes, this Russian clotheshorse has been making waves with her strikingly unique look and has become a favourite among top editors, photographers and designers, having recently walked for Versace at Paris Haute Couture Week. Anna was discovered when she was 17 while waiting in line at McDonald's (of all places!) and was immediately signed to Paris-based Silent Models.

Window Dressing.

I can't describe how much I love this editorial, it's practically my dream shopping trip! Being able to saunter down the street donning enviable clothing, with dozens of top-tier designer shopping bags hanging from the crook of your arm, in those filled to the brim with the latest covetable togs to hit the runway. There would even be someone to help you carry all your shopping around while all you have to do is to decide what to buy next!

What I really admire about this editorial is that it brought out famous brand signatures in a elegant yet stylish way. From Michael Kors' futuristic city style to Chanel's famous tweed and black and white branding, Fendi's well-known penchant for loud fur togs to Prada's renowned gingham suits, this editorial has really brought out styles which are synonymous with the labels involved and pieced them together into works of editorial art.

What do you think about this editorial? Which one was your favourite?

Weekend Inspiration #18 : I HEART NYC

New York City. The only three words in the world that would conjure up a tidal wave of glamorous pictures and give you a tingle of wanderlust down your spine. Contagious exciting vibes literally bounce off every awe-worthy photo of the City of Dreams, with its Starbucks coffee shops, yellow taxis, bright lights and busy New Yorkers.

New York has always been at the top of my travel Carpe Diem and my life would be complete if I ever get a chance to discover this amazing city. It has practically everything : classic musicals in Times Square; chic and upscale luxury boutiques (think Chanel, Tiffany's, Christian Louboutin, Prada and Jimmy Choo etc) in shopping districts like SoHo, Madison Avenue, Manhattan and Fifth Avenue; department stores and style emporiums in the likes of Bergdorf Goodman's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney's and Bloomingdale's; flea markets and delicious street fare in the streets; amazing flora in the form of Central Park (which turns into a winter wonderland in winter); utterly scrumptious signatures like New York-style cheesecake and pizza and a melting pot of other cuisines like Italian, Asian and Middle-Eastern as well as top-tier haute cuisine restaurants; not to mention the breathtaking paranorma of the New York city skyline.(That was a huge mouthful!)

14 Clutches To Covet Now

Recently the fashion world has ditched their oversized boho bags, pint-sized minaudieres, and ever practical canvas totes for a sleek rectangular piece of arm candy. Not only does it serve it's storage function, it doubles up as a major style statement. It is also a celebrities' favorite when it comes to choosing the perfect accessory that would make heads turn.

Enter the Clutch.

This coveted bag has made its impact on the fashion world, springing up from collections in the recent S/S, F/W and Resort seasons. But with its practical yet stylish qualities, no wonder that it is the It-bag of the moment! A clutch is small enough to be carried with one hand yet it can contain all your essentials, from the emergency compact to your cellphone or even just a book for leisure reading. The size also indirectly forces you to bring out only what's important! Let's not forget that it makes a total statement piece. With it's simple rectangular design, it is both elegant and chic in a restrained, minimalist kind of way. But of course, there are also eye-catching ones for those who want to make a statement. Labels like Charlotte Olympia, Olympia Le-Tan and Lulu Guinness are famous because of their whimsical and quirky designs : Olympia Le-Tan has her signature book clutches and Lulu Guinness her trademark bright pink and red lip ones.

The thing about clutches is that it is one of the only bags that can bring you from day to night without committing a serious fashion faux pas or looking terribly out of place. Smart enough for a day at work and stylish enough for a girls' night out, a clutch adds a touch of glamour and edge as well as a much-needed pop of colour (if any) to every outfit. Clutches also work their magic in the details, think exquisite beadwork, lush prints and vibrant hues splashed across. Whether you are a maximalist heavyweight or a minimalist junkie, the clutch is definitely a must-have for everyone. Here are my fave clutches of the season that are worth coveting now :

Style Icon Of The Month : Miranda Kerr

Hey lovelies! I just had an amazing idea to do a monthly series on my latest style crush. I already had a long list of people I get style inspiration from, so I wondered why not I do a monthly series to share them with all of you? In addition to my monthly Blogger Spotlight series, this one would feature my favourite style icons ranging from Miranda Kerr to Miroslava Duma, Cara Delevingne to Jennifer Lawrence. This is the first part of the series featuring Miranda Kerr, hope you like it!
----------------------------
Street Style
Victoria's Secret Angel and supermodel Miranda Kerr has always been on everyone's best dressed list, whether is it those from the likes of Vogue or Style.com, or personal ones kept by people like me, she's one of the most talked about women in the fashion world. Whether is it off-duty in the streets sporting the latest It-Bag (or her adorable son Flynn), or is it on the red carpet donning a gorgeous gown, Miranda's style is not only unique to call her own, it's also worth dedicating millions of blog posts to.
Despite being a mum, she never looks frumpy or mumsy and manages to pull off killer street style outfits, many of which has been constantly lauded by style blogs and publications all around the world, for her powerful mix of casual, chic and major sex appeal. Her sleek style image and impeccable wardrobe has earned her as a spokesmodel for Mango, which ads are seen in practically every major city.
So what makes her effortless chic style and her to-die-for wardrobe the source of pangs of sartorial envy? It's all about the combination! Take Miranda on a sunny day in NYC. She saunters down the street in a floral Topshop skirt, but chose to keep the top simple in a white tank. That's not all, she goes the extra style mile by throwing in accessories from luxe labels. A Burberry Barrel bag, Miu Miu sunglasses (whom she's obsessed with), nude Alexander Wang heels, you name it, she has it. Even that basic tank came from renowned designer Isabel Marant. No wonder she's such a style star, she's got tons of sartorial smarts, mixing practical with luxe, feminine chic with sleek silhouettes.“For me it’s all about keeping things simple and feeling comfortable in what I am wearing." If that's not note-worthy style advice, I don't know what is.
On the red carpet
Here's a snippet of Harper's Bazaar's interview with her, read on to find out more about her take on style!
---------------------------
Harper's Bazaar: Describe your style in three words.
Miranda Kerr: Classic, chic and comfortable.

HB: Who are your style icons, one living, one dead?
MK: I have always admired Audrey Hepburn’s style and my Nan has always been a style icon for me. Growing up I would play in her wardrobe and was very influenced by her. She taught me that you don't need to have a lot of money to have style. It’s the way you put things together and how you carry yourself.

HB: What are you buying this fall to update your look?
MK: Leather baseball cap — I saw this particular one on Instagram and ordered it immediately.

HB: You've become a street style star for your effortless off-duty look. What's your formula for success?
MK: For me it’s all about keeping things simple and feeling comfortable in what I am wearing. I prefer investing in classic well tailored pieces.
HB: What would you never wear?
MK: Never say never! I'm open to trying new things.

HB: What is your wardrobe MVP?
MK: Right now it’s a pair of Cartier diamond earrings — they are really delicate and timeless.

HB: Go-to shopping spots?
MK: Because I’m never in one spot for too long I shop a lot on Net-a-Porter.

HB: Turning to your career, what did walking in the Balenciaga show mean to you?
MK: Walking the runway for Balenciaga is amazing — I love working with Nicolas Ghesquiere, he is so talented and I love what he does. Each season he inspires me and I am always honoured to work with him.
What do you think about Miranda Kerr? Has she been one of your go-to style stars?

Weekend Inspiration #17 : Coco Chanel

You live but once; you might as well be amusing.”- Coco Chanel

I've always had a thing for Chanel. I mean, who doesn't? It's one of the most iconic French fashion houses, and it's founder, the Grand Mademoiselle Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel is lauded everywhere in the fashion world because of her ground breaking contributions. From the Chanel No.5 to the coveted 2.55 quilted flap bag, to the LBD and the classic Chanel suit, these les éléments éternels, as Karl Lagerfeld calls them, are symbols of Chanel which has endured the test of time since she opened the first Chanel boutique in 1910 on 21 rue Cambon. Just the word "Chanel" or the overlapping double-Cs speak volumes about Coco's timeless modernity, conjuring images of bold, yet understated and absolutely chic elegance.

Fashion Films | Chanel & Dior

Although they appear everywhere from stores to style magazines, ads are not enough for designers these days to promote their latest collections. Creative directors of luxury houses have started to take the director's seat, creating films that not only showcases the latest togs from the house, but also reflects the rich history and culture of the label. Today we look to two of the most iconic French luxury houses Chanel and Dior, as well as their latest films. Prepare to be awed.
Once Upon A Time by Karl Lagerfeld | Chanel
Karl Lagerfeld proves his directing skills once again in this delightfully French film "Once Upon A Time" which was made to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the very first Chanel boutique set in the quaint seaside town of Deauville, France. Being the face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle parfum, Keira Knightley was the natural choice for the Kaiser to play the legendary designer in her early years. Featuring notable names from British model Stella Tennant to Brad Kroenig, French actress Clotilde Hemse (as her aunt Adrienne) to Tallulah Harlech, this film was premièred at Raffles Hotel in Singapore (I still can't believe Karl was came to Singapore!) a day before Chanel's Resort Cruise 2014 collection was showcased at Loewen Cluster. Teen supermodel Lindsey Wixson also made an appearance in the film, wearing a très chic black feathered hat. Fabuleux.
-----------------------
Secret Garden - Versailles by Inez and Vinoodh | Dior
If you haven't noticed, Dior has a thing for gardens. From Raf Simons' 2012 Couture collection to now their Secret Garden film series, Dior always had a recurring garden theme in its collections. Lensed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the films were shot in the most dreamy palace in the world --- Versailles.Last year's Secret Garden was filled with glamorous hallways with impossibly ornate décor, but the second extension of the series "Secret Garden 2 - Versailles" instead brings you to the lush forest grounds of the Château.
A symbol of Dior's French tradition, the picturesque Château de Versailles brings to life the Dior Fall 2013 collection, starring Russian clotheshorse Daria Strokous as Maria Antoinette, Xiao Wen Ju and Melissa Stasiuk clad top-to-toe in Dior Fall '13 togs. Enter an enchanting world from the Petit Trianon to the surreal misty forests, complete with iconic Diorissimo handbags, colourful spring gowns and of course, stunning scenery.

Being ever the art historian, Raf Simons even took inspiration from French artists! The scene before you click "play" is apparently inspired by Édouard Manet’s famed "Le Déjeuner sur l’Herbe" or "Luncheon on the Grass", featuring three people reclining on the forest floor. In the film, they are replaced by Daria, Melissa and Xiao Wen still relaxing on the forest floor but instead donning full Dior regalia, with baskets of fruit and Diorissimo bags to match.
(Fun Fact : Did you know Dior means golden in French? Now you know.)
------------------------------
What do you think? If these films aren't très français, I don't know what is.

Blogger Spotlight : Theri Hornhofer

Hey ladies! Major apologies for posting Blogger Spotlight so irregularly nowadays. It's supposed to be posted on the last week of every month, but I didn't manage to post last month's one due to some of my commitments that I have. But no worries! This month, I managed to interview one of my friends from the blogosphere whom I have met on IFB (for those of you who haven't become an IFB member, sign up quick because it's a great place to meet and interact with people who share the same passion for fashion!). Her name is Theri Hornhofer and she comes from half way around the world where I live, Austria. When I got to know her blog, I was instantly in love! Her style is both simple and casual, yet stylish and seriously wearable. What sets her apart from style bloggers in her niche is what she calls "a hint of Theri", outfits that don't cost a bomb but makes a real style statement in an understated way, taking you from day to night without having to change anything. Paris Haute Couture Week | Beauty + Backstage

Giambattista Valli
Everyone know what happens in a fashion show. Models strut down the runway, donning the latest must-haves of the season, from elaborate sweeping gowns to structured coats, to unique works of art in the form of bags and shoes. But what happens backstage is as interesting as what happens on the runway. Models move from makeup to hair using a process called "model rotation" and get their names checked before they can recline back on a chair and let the makeup artists and hair stylists work their magic. While production managers rush from place to place to make sure everything is in order before the models hit the runway, models begin to put on their assigned look, from the accesories to the main pieces. Most importantly, backstage is one of the only places in the world where you can catch one-of-a-kind candids of the models on duty (Look out for Sasha Luss and Anastasia Ivanova having a selfie at Dior!). While they look serious and a tad intimidating on the runway, they are totally different backstage and if they didn't have such elaborate clothes on, you might think they were a bunch of girls having fun on their own!

Fall 2013 Couture | Faves

Couture. The one word that everyone covets, conjuring up images of incredible, glamorous gowns and sky-high price tags. The one event in the fashion world where only the crème de la crème get to showcase their creations and every style maven worth her salt marks their calendars for. Paris Haute Couture (pronounced as "oat kuhtoor") Week has always been the highlight in my fashion calendar and you would find me watching my Twitter and Instagram dashboards like a hawk for up-to-date glimpses from the backstage to the front row seats at the couture shows.

Weekend Inspiration #15 : Painted Perfections

Ever seen an illustration that made you swoon? Fashion illustrations have been the latest fad for me and you would catch me squealing inwardly when I come across one! Whether is it couture sketches or accessory illustrations or even a spur-of-the-moment drawing, they never fail to bring out the whimsical side of the object and turn it into something fun and delightful.

Obsession du Jour : Lancôme X Alber Elbaz

Feeling blue on the first day of school? Here's a Monday mood lifter: The makeup collection by Lancôme and Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz is finally here!
Hitting the counters last week on June 15, the limited-edition beauty collection, called " Lancôme X Alber Elbaz" features Lancôme's world-famous Hypnôse mascara series, among eye colour palettes, mascaras and false eyelashes, with the packaging now coming in gorgeous and artistic hearts, stars and dots. When it was announced earlier this year, it was definitely one of the most hyped about collaborations in the beauty world for 2013. When I first saw the collection, I immediately fell head over heels in love with it!The colourful sketches by Mr Elbaz are tres cute and has " Alber Elbaz " written all over it. I bet that it would be a hit not only among Lanvin and Lancôme fans, but also to those who are new to both brands.
