Blogger Spotlight : Chelsea Lane

Being a faithful reader of Seventeen,I found out about Chelsea Lane of zipped in last year's December issue. I was really curious after reading totally amazing things about her blog (700-1000 views a day! Who knew?) and her style struck me as being sophisticated, laid-back and classic chic.I absolutely love how she always pairs up the right accessories with the right togs in every outfit and she's able to carry off every look effortlessly! No wonder that she has already built a following of 1000 and counting, her style is just amazing and wearable! With her prominent nose bridge and to-die-for platinum brown locks, she is a style blogger that you won't want to miss. Read on to find out more about her!
1.Why did you name your blog zipped?
I came up with the name ‘zipped’ because it was concise, easy to remember, and makes it feel like the site is full of information you can’t find anywhere else!

2. Why did you create zipped?
I started zipped as a way to put together a virtual portfolio that showcases my aesthetic and interests. I love fashion, and I wanted to connect with others that love it too!
3. What do you aspire to be when you grow up?
I would love to work in fashion styling for an established boutique or brand.

4. How would you describe your sense of style?
I often describe my personal style as comfortable, classic, textural, and unassuming.
5. What are you favourite things (labels, brands etc) in fashion?
I love Madewell, Kate Spade, Rag & Bone, Vince, Free People, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Carolina Herrera…the list goes on!

6. Who inspires you in the fashion industry?
I adore Garance Dore and Ashley Olsen!
7. What is your biggest achievement in 2012 and your biggest goal for 2013?
My biggest achievement on the blog in 2012 was getting the opportunity to work with some great companies like Minnetonka Moccasin. I have lots of goals for 2013, but my favorite one is probably to go to New York Fashion Week in September!

8. How did you feel when you knew about being featured in Seventeen?
I was so excited to hear Seventeen wanted to feature my blog in Singapore! It is so cool to be able to have readers across the world and have international companies recognize my work.
9. What do you envision yourself as 5 years from now?
In five years, I would love to be building my styling career or even blogging full-time, hopefully living in Seattle or New York.

10. What are your hobbies?
I love trying out new restaurants, home shopping for my apartment, reading non-fiction books and painting my nails.
11. What is the craziest thing you have done in the name of fashion?
The craziest thing I have done for fashion: I once wore a pair of completely destroyed tights trying to look like Miley Cyrus. It just ended up looking like I had been run over by a garbage truck—not a good look. It was pretty nasty!

12. If you had a chance to collaborate with someone in the fashion industry, who would it be and what would you create?
I would love to create a line of heels for girls like me who just don’t bother wearing heels because they aren’t comfortable. I can’t walk in them, and I’m sure someone out there can fix it! I had an actual dream about this once and designed the line with Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, but in reality, I’d love to do something with Tory Burch or Kate Spade.
13.If you had a fully-paid trip to any fashion week in the world, which one would it be and which show would you attend?
I would love to go to London Fashion week to see Burberry Prorsum!

14. What advice do you have for fellow style bloggers around the world?
My advice for other style bloggers is to wear what you love and never dress up for your readers. People appreciate honesty and transparency, and that is what they’ll keep coming back for.

Weekend Inspiration #9 : Bring on the bling

Totally in love with all these fabulous shots, especially the first and the last one. They're one of the most gorgeous pictures I've ever seen and I'm dying to add those stunning accessories to my wardrobe! The first pictures looks über glamorous with all those gold and diamond embellishments, so à la Anna Dello Russo for H&M. I'm starting to have a thing for them now, and I bet they would bring panache and oomph to any outfit!

What do you think of these accessories?

Summer-Ready//6 Nail Polishes For Less

Hey guys! Here's the second post of my pop-up blog series, Summer Ready, which dishes summer style tips to prep you up for summer. (I'm loving the header!) Not only is it the hottest season of the year, it's the best time to add more colour to your wardrobe. And I'm not just talking about clothes, nails are another way to make a statement (think bright, bold and sparkly). Being totally bored and sick of doing math, I wandered around the web in search of statement accessories and voila! I stumbled upon this website and guess what I found? 6 ah-mazing textured nail polishes that are all and I mean all, below $20! As a student on a budget, I was practically in nail heaven and I was squealing and jumping up and down! (Who knew that heaven could come in a bottle?) I have never come across any nail polish that actually fits my budget and a lot of my fave nail polishes are really expensive (it's always the price, isn't it?) . Textured nail polishes are stepping up to It-status now, so stocking up on them for summer is like a total no-brainer. But enough for my thoughts, below are the 6 nail polishes that would elevate an outfit from an average to a wow.

1.China Glaze Texture// What these nail polishes lack in sparkle, they make up for with bright and bold day-glo colours.Go for these for a concrete and smooth finish.$7 each from chinaglaze.com in May.

2.Deborah Lippmann Mermaid Lacquers// Brimming with glitter, these nail polishes can mimic The Little Mermaid's sparkly tail with just one swipe. A must-have  for a trip to the beach!$19 each, deborahlippmann.com

3. OPI Liquid Sand//For this range, OPI drew inspiration from the iconic Bond Girls to produce stunning hues that dry to a matte, pebbled finish. Fabulous.$9.50 each, from opi.com

4.Julie G for Jessie's Girl Gumdrop Nail Polish//Inspired by the sugar coating on gumdrops, these vibrant lacquers bring a sweet treat to your nails, minus the calories.$4 each; riteaid.com.

5. Zoya Pixie Dust Nail Polish//Fearless shades jam-packed with glitter, this polish is perfect for making a bold fashion statement. $9 each; zoya.com.

6.Nails Inc. Feathers//These opaque glitters by Nails Inc. create a unique feathered texture that can be a major convo-starter. The print on the  bottles definitely made my love for these lacquers take flight!$9.50 each; sephora.com

What do you think of these textured lacquers?

Once again, scrolling through a bunch of fabulous photos on blogs have been the closest I could get to Coachella, where desert-style is as much a part of the experience as the music. Bloggers have been raving on Twitter and Instagram over Coachella and it's just plain sad that I wasn't part of it! It was blissfully sunny for two weekends straight (omg) and the sun was amazing! It totally set the mood for all the festival-goers and you can tell that everyone had an awesome Coachella this year.I don't know about you, but the Ferris Wheel below was like the symbol of Coachella to me this year. I mean, scroll through any Coachella post (like mine) on any blog and TA-DA! You see the Ferris Wheel and it's usually with some delicious background in the back. Nowadays, every time I come across a Ferris Wheel, I'm like "Coachella!" and spools of photos come tumbling into my head from all the pictures I've seen the past week, that totally goes to show how unforgettable it is. From pool parties to desert style, amazing weather to great music on two fabulous weekends, Coachella is definitely the perfect-est summer event ever!

Summer-Ready//Editorial Inspiration:Beach Party

This editorial, which is found in Vogue Japan, modelled by Magdalena Frackowiak and styled by editor Anna Dello Russo (ADR), is officially the most beautiful editorial I have ever seen! I mean just look at the colours, they're so vibrant and stunning and just utterly gorgeous! For those of you who are familiar with ADR, you would know that her flamboyant style DNA is channelled in this spread through and through. With perfect lighting and bold and bright colours, look no further for the perfect summer style inspiration! The heavily accessorised african-inspired looks complete with colourful prints and tropical patterns took my breath away, and Magdalena looks like a total tribal princess in it! Talk about wow factor.

P.S. I'm starting this pop-up blog series "Summer-Ready" which would feature tips and tricks to prep you and your wardrobe up for summer. I would be putting up exciting posts from this series in the next few weeks, so be sure to check them out!

What do you think of this editorial?
